Lord Velvet 05:02
Here we are Trapped in this never changing time loop Remember the days The beaucoup times you made my heart melt But that was so long ago Those muggy summer nights on the streetcar And every time I look at my phone I wonder where you are Should I go up Should I go down I don’t see your face around here anymore And I know that I ain’t above you I’m just waiting in the queue But I hear the brass band calling it’s time for me to head on inside Because I’m here Help me wash away my fear Turn on the light Have the band come in on stage right You know my love can be rented And you know that I can be so tempted I can be there in a minute and honey You can call me Lord Velvet Now I have seen all the stars There up high on the avenue And the first time that I saw you You were sweet as honeydew Another road, another town I could turn this car around but it ain’t right And though my name’s on that marquee I can almost guarantee That your sweet magnolia trees are on my mind And I know that I ain’t above you I’m just waiting in the queue But I hear the brass band calling it’s time for me to head on inside Because I’m here Help me wash away my fear Turn on the light Have the band come in on stage right You know my love can be rented And you know that I can be so tempted I can be there in a minute and honey You can call me Lord Velvet Your fruit cage has got me blinded You know that I can’t hide it So open up the door it’s time for me to head on inside Because I’m here I can wash away your fear Turn off the lights Put that record on the flipside You know my love can be rented And you know that I can be so tempted And I can finish in a minute and honey You can call me Lord Velvet

Was it the rubber soles on my Converse Or the tires of this beat up Toyota That saved me from missing you The rain was my only friend Followed by the thunder A flash of light and then nothing more The world went dark Your soft touch and sweet stars Will lead the way to our new start This catalyzed connection will begin That catalyzed connection found within And though the clouds will part And we are told to restart This catalyzed connection can begin It was late last night that my eyes were finally open The warmth within my heart was so true There were those big brown eyes And that Japanese tattoo The dawn beguile Your soft touch and sweet smile Will lead the way to our new start This catalyzed connection will begin That catalyzed connection found within And though the clouds will part And we are told to restart This catalyzed connection can begin The rain was my only friend, now it’s you

El Dorado 04:18
Bienvenido al El Dorado Todo es gratis It’s guaranteed you’ll find the pleasantries of life you seek But what I don’t really understand is Why I’m here and who you are Were you sent from some ancient land Or are you just a star, am I just a star Walk into the El Dorado We’ve got all you need Welcome to the El Dorado The finest place you’ve seen The signs in the city They don’t ever change The lights may dim but it always Stays the same And when I look up at the sky I wonder what happened to you Should I spill that wine Or am I just a fool, am I just a fool Walk into the El Dorado We’ve got all you need Welcome to the El Dorado The finest place you’ve seen Come right in to the El Dorado The land of golden dreams Where everything that’s true and right is what you believe

Lost in the stars a million miles away This luggage can only take me so far babe I hope to see you someday This trust we have has grown so much I don’t think I have ever lost A grace like yours, though at what cost Time, time, it goes on in a rush So meet me far away from here Across the sea and we’ll be clear Baby let’s go back to where it began Far away from the things of man If I could hold you so close to me The moon will guide us through the cold We could walk the razor’s edge Instead of the path of gold So meet me far away from here Across the sea and we’ll be clear Baby let’s go back to where it began Far away from the things of man

So tell me, what day is it today? Didn’t the sun come up the same way We can’t remember our dreams I guess we’ll just wait for spring I get up...do you want some tea? Sweet or green it’s all the same to me Where did you go? Don’t you know that we can’t leave until We get through this scene The news lady says Hold on tight but hey I’m pretty sure I can last all night And even if I can’t see the future You’re here with me now and that’s alright Oh darlin’ Can’t you see...it’s only been six weeks What’s up? Nothin’ much I know Can you believe all this snow? What’s up? Nothin’ much I know Can you believe we’ve seen every single show? Oh darlin’ Can’t you see...it’s only been fifty-six weeks, damn So tell me what day is it today? Didn’t the sun come up the same way We can’t remember our dreams I guess we’ll just wait for spring

Sweat Lodge 04:02
Going downtown to the Sweat Lodge Meet my stable Taste some maple All you can eat Find that slow pace Get that ditch fish Find your true bliss You can find it at the red light Wet at high tide Enjoy the ride Once you find it ain’t no going back Ain’t no cutting slack at the Sweat Lodge If the moon is right Ask for Charon He will take you there Make sure to pay your fare Don’t you drown there son The water is so deep But the sweat so cold You can feel the heat You can find it at the red light Wet at high tide Enjoy the ride Once you find it ain’t no going back Ain’t no cutting slack at the Sweat Lodge You can find it at the red light Wet at high tide Enjoy the ride Once you find it ain’t no going back Ain’t no cutting slack all aboard to the Sweat Lodge

King of Pain 07:01
There's a little black spot on the sun today It's the same old thing as yesterday There's a black hat caught in a high tree top There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a fossil trapped in a high cliff wall There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall There's a blue whale beached by a springtime's ebb There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack There's a black-winged gull with a broken back There's a little black spot on the sun today It's the same old thing as yesterday I've stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain I'll always be king of pain

Fields 03:53
Walking on the fields of Elysian I saw an old man singing softly Life is funny when you can’t decide Which way you wanna go The live oaks shade the way Though the neon makes you want to stay Nobody leaves this place Especially you and your gentle face But for now, the streets of Elysium They are calling Head along and don’t be shy Bounce around this sprawling city And in no time baby you’ll be back to fall again Running down the fields of Elysian Don’t mind the row of run down shacks It don’t matter where you are You’ll always hear the sound of the turning track The sunlight burns the ground As the five city flag falls without a sound So sweet it fills the air with a warm embrace and a gentle face But for now, the streets of Elysium They are calling Head along and don’t be shy Bounce around this sprawling city And in no time baby you’ll be back to fall again Open your eyes and enjoy every sandwich For you may never know what will appear around the corner Look to the sky and don’t you mind the heat Because you know every time that I go down you get a bit higher

So deep, so wide, will you take me on your back for a ride If I should fall, would you swallow me deep inside River, show me how to float, I feel like I'm sinking down Thought that I could get along But here in this water, my feet won't touch the ground I need something to turn myself around Going away, away toward the sea River deep, can you lift up and carry me Oh roll on through the heartland 'Til the sun has left the sky River, river, carry me high 'Til the washing of the water, make it all alright Let your waters reach me, like she reached me tonight Letting go, it's so hard, the way it's hurting now To get this love untied So tough to stay with this thing, ‘cos if I follow through I face what I denied I'll get these hooks out of me And I'll take out the hooks that I sunk deep in your side Kill that fear of emptiness, that loneliness I hide River, oh river, river running deep Bring me something that will let me get to sleep In the washing of the water will you take it all away Bring me something to take this pain away

Come, my friends, It is not too late to seek a newer world. Push off, and sitting well in order smite The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of All the western stars, until I die.

Now is the time for all good men To get together with one another Iron out their problems and iron out their quarrels And try to live as brothers Try to find the peace within Without stepping on one another And to respect the women of the world Just remember we all have mothers Make this land a better land Than the world in which we live And help each man be a better man With the kindness that we give I know we can make it work I know darn well we can work it out Yes we can, I know we can can Yes we can can, why can't we if we wanna, yes we can can I know we can make it work I know darn well we can work it out Yes we can, I know we can can, Yes we can can, Great god almighty, yes we can, I know we can can Take care of all the children, The children of the world They're our strongest hope for the future, The little bitty boys and girls. We got to make this land a better land Than the world in which we live And help each man be a better man With the kindness that we give I know we can make it work I know darn well we can work it out Yes we can, I know we can can Yes we can can, why can't we if we wanna, yes we can can I know we can make it work I know darn well we can work it out Yes we can, I know we can can, Yes we can can, Great god almighty, yes we can, I know we can can

about

Reflecting on the past couple of years, I have found myself in a strange state of flux. Though I’ve been stuck at home or just stuck in my head, the thing that has kept me going has been creating. Looking to the future. Gaining a sense of adventure. This album is a representation of that. The man that is Lord Velvet is a courageous character, someone who isn’t afraid of the unpaved trail ahead. Someone who yearns for freedom and future, yet still fantasizes about the past. A man lost in the stars, yet rooted to the ground. Funny, yet reserved. A walking contradiction. As the album progresses into “Catalyzed,” the first glimmer of nostalgia creeps into view. A spark of love, found in the strangest of circumstances. Walk into the “El Dorado” motel, a place that encapsulates the mindset of the modern-day world. A world where what you believe is the truth. This was inspired by a real-life motel I passed while driving in southern Florida. The perfect dichotomy of pristine and rundown. “The Things of Man” is inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time Joe vs. the Volcano. Perhaps this was playing on the television in the motel as Lord Velvet ponders his past with a former lover. As he falls into a slumber, he suddenly dreams of a year stuck in quarantine in “Waiting for Spring.” Or did that really happen? Either way, he can’t remember as each day morphed into one. But that dream turns into a nightmare in “Sweat Lodge.” Scenes of fevers, sickness, red lights, and the ferryman of Hades himself appear. As he awakens in the dead of night, Lord Velvet is a man alone with his thoughts. In a room where his only friend is an upright piano, he laments on being the “King of Pain.” A king absorbed in his own unhappiness, remembering those he had left behind. As the sun rises and he looks in awe around him. The beautiful streets of Elysium and the Elysian “Fields.” Is this heaven? Or is it simply just a shiny veneer hiding the corruption and contempt for those seen as lesser. Disillusioned, Lord Velvet finds himself on the beach in “Washing of the Water.” A swelling tide and a downpour cleanse this man once and for all. As he looks to the sky, he senses a closing of a chapter. A moment in time that he won’t forget. The sounds of a timpani echo in the room. A rhapsody entrances the listeners. The crowd is calling his name. It’s showtime once again for Lord Velvet. As he steps on stage, a new man, he calls for a world of compassion and love. A world that takes care of each other. Yes we can, I know we can can.
